RHCF implementers decided to work with rural poor and disadvantaged groups with emphasis on orphaned children, widows and infected groups (people with HIV/AIDS). Most families in Buwekula County are affected by HIV/AIDS and other endemic diseases which leave behind many children who have lost one or both parents. The survey carried out by authorities of Buwekula county and RHCF showed that over 2000 children are fully orphaned. They may stay with grand parents who are too old to care for them properly. Many orphaned children between 5 and 14 years old drop out of school due to lack of school fees and other social commodities like school uniforms, books, pens, pencils, medical treatment and lunch at school.
Many children are not in school because they come from poor families headed by grandparents. Those who go to school walk bare-footed, lack lunch and social commodities, and cannot concentrate in classes because of hunger. Eventually they drop out of school due to lack of support. The older ones start caring for the young ones. In town centers there are boys and girls who work for simple jobs to support themselves in the community. Rural Health Care Foundation has identified and registered 400 orphaned children who need support. The organization requests kindly any generous donor to support these orphaned children in Buwekula county.
